The Power of Plant-Made Therapeutics

Phyto-therapeutics is a term used to describe a class of plant-made formulations. For millennia, humans have been harnessing the power of plants to treat conditions both physical and mental. Many everyday therapeutics we know and trust, such as aspirin, have ancient origins in natural, plant-made compounds.

Pharmaceutical-Grade Phyto-Therapeutics

Today, the field of phyto-therapeutics has advanced significantly. Innovations in science and technology have enabled researchers to identify and capture ever more clinical potential from plants, such as cannabis, and to utilize modern industrial methods to develop pharmaceutical-grade therapeutic formulations that are of high-quality and consistency.

Forging New Pathways in Medicine

The global medical community is  recognizing phyto-therapeutics as an alternative or complement to pharmaceutical medicine. As a phyto-therapeutic pioneer, ZYUS is working closely with researchers, healthcare policy makers, and practitioners to define the standards and protocols for cannabinoid use.

Cannabinoids are the active ingredients of the cannabis plant. The two main cannabinoids are THC and CBD, but there are over 100 different cannabinoids made by the cannabis plant.1 The amount of cannabinoids can vary between cannabis cultivar and formulations.

What is THC?

THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the most studied cannabinoid and is responsible for many of the effects people feel when they use cannabis.1 THC is the cannabinoid that may provide benefits for pain, sleep, muscle spasms, nausea and stimulating appetite1 and is also responsible for the ‘high’ feeling that some people feel when they use cannabis. The amount of THC in the cannabis plant varies from less than 1% to as high as 30%.1

What is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol), the other main cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, has almost the same molecular structure as THC, but has a very different effect on the body.1 It does not cause the euphoric ‘high’ that THC does.1 The effects of CBD include helping inflammation (anti-inflammatory), lowering pain, helping for nausea and vomiting, reducing anxiety and lowering seizures in people with epilepsy.1
